Hornets Win At Pleasant Valley

Posted by Emmaus High School Boys Soccer at Sep 21, 2019 1:29PM PDT

The Emmaus Boys Soccer Team traveled to Pleasant Valley High School on Saturday September 21 and emerged with a 10-0 victory. On a beautiful sunny day, the Hornets controlled all facets of play. The scoring opened with senior Eric Johnson lofting a corner to senior Andrew Gaines who headed the ball into goal. Junior Hudson Peck threaded a ball through the defense to senior Jake Groh who scored the second goal of the day. Junior Marco Silva scored the third goal after a strong run to the left and shot inside the far post. Junior Pat Walsh netted the 4th goal after dribbling to the right and directing the ball into the left half of the goal. Sophomore Holden Brown dribbled hard right and touched left to score the 5th goal. Gaines scored his second of the day, streaking down the right side and shooting to the far post. Peck made a steal, beat a defender, dribbled down the left and crossed the ball to Groh in front for the 7th goal, then scored the 8th off a deep through ball from junior Alexzander Toto. Silva brought the ball down the left side and crossed to senior forward AJ Febbraro, who scored the goal, capping his return to the field after being sidelined with an injury for 3 weeks. Peck finished the scoring, splitting the defenders and being taken down in front of the net, then converting the penalty kick. Emmaus’ record improves to 11-0-0 for the season.

The JV Hornets defeated the JV Bears 3-0. Goalscorers included sophomore forward Holden Brown, sophomore forward Brian Flor, and freshman midfielder Teddy Coenen. The Emmaus JV team, on a 4 game win streak, improved their season record to 7-2-2.

The Emmaus Boys Soccer Team defeated the visiting Dieruff Boys Soccer Team by a score of 7-0 on Wednesday September 18. The Huskies, winless in 2019, showed poise and courage in defeat. Although unable to create a shot on goal, the Dieruff field players demonstrated effort, hustle, and sportsmanship, often offering a hand up when a Hornet was on the ground, and never seemed to show signs of quitting. No player showed more courage than the Huskies’ keeper who faced 26 shots on goal, yet repelled a multitude of shots by his athleticism, sacrificing his body to absorb a shot or charging hard to take away the angle from a Hornet attacker. Congratulations to these young men whose grace in defeat represents the ideal of high school sports and sportsmanship.
The Hornets scored 5 in the first half. Senior forward Andrew Gaines had two assists early, the first a ball to senior forward Jake Groh who put a one-touch shot into goal, and the second a bounding ball to junior midfielder Marco Silva who made a nimble half-volley from near the 18. Junior forward Holden Brown scored next, taking a pass from junior midfielder Pat Walsh and driving it inside the far post. Groh scored again from the front of the net from an assist from junior forward Hudson Peck. The first half scoring closed with Gaines driving in a rebound after the Dieruff keeper made two great saves of rockets off the foot of Walsh but couldn’t save a third.
The second half gave the underclassmen an opportunity to shine. Peck hit a corner to junior defender Alexzander Toto who struck home a header. Sophomore midfielder Brian Flor passed to sophomore forward Jack Lawrence who drove a ball low inside the near post to close out the scoring. The Hornets record stands at 10-0-0 after the win.

The Emmaus JV Team beat Dieruff JV by a score of 10-0. Scorers included sophomores Bryan Flor (2), Logan Mains (2), Robbie Machado, Brydon Crawford, and Carlos Morales, and freshmen Ty Sommer, Aivan Delgado, and Max McGrath. The JV Hornets, outscoring their last 3 opponents by a combined 27-0, improved their season record to 6-2-2.
