Posted by Emmaus High School Boys Soccer on Sep 16 2019 at 06:48PM PDT in Fall 2019 Season

The Emmaus Boys Soccer Team handily defeated visiting Pocono Mountain West by a score of 5-0 on Monday September 16. Senior forward Andrew Gaines opened the scoring for Emmaus, evading a defender and driving home a goal 8 minutes into the game. With 12 minutes to play in the first half, the Hornets used a nice combination play to score. Senior forward Jake Groh started the action by sending a give-and-go ball to junior forward Nate Romig flying down the right side. Romig crossed the ball to the far post where junior midfielder Josh Whalen used one touch to redirect the ball to junior midfielder Pat Walsh in front of the net. Walsh drove the ball off the keeper to the top of the net from the 6-yard line. In the second half the goals kept coming when junior midfielder Marco Silva passed the ball through the defense to Gaines who slid the ball past the keeper for his 2nd goal of the game and 4th of the season. Later, Walsh sent a ball down the right to Romig who nicely juked a defender then hit a ball into the upper 90 at the far post for his first varsity goal. Walsh finished the scoring with his 2nd goal of the game and 6th of the season with 3 minutes to play. The Hornets move to 9-0-0 on the season.
